Tulip Festival 2013

We made our annual journey to the Tulip Festival on Friday.  Sean was on a ‘guys weekend’ so it was just me and kids.  I picked Brennan up from Kindergarten and we high-tailed it Mount Vernon, WA.  Brennan really enjoys playing at the park with his friends almost every day after school, so it took some real bribery to get him into the car and on the road.  So, my promise was that we could stop and get ice cream BEFORE we went to the Tulip Fields.  Last year, we waited until AFTER the Tulip Fiends and this little shop had about a 40min line for Ice Cream.  Their road side sign says ‘immodest ice cream cones.’  Yes, I would agree…..I told Brennan that he would get an ice cream cone the size of his head…..he literally ate the whole thing. 

We only went to two fields.  The one below I kind of stumbled upon and was able to park easily, so I pulled off.  Yes, the colors really are this amazing. 

I was telling Brennan, ‘whatever you do, DON’T smile at me…..”

I was trying to break up the “turn around and smile at me” request – so instead I asked Brennan to star jump…..he of course, said NO, but then promptly decided he was going to show Caelan how to do it.  I love this shot……he really got ‘air.’

Our next stop was a place called Tulip Town…..Brennan had to hoist himself up to get to that top window. 

Working off that ice cream……Brennan loved jumping between the mounds for each Tulip row.

Brennan was collecting the flowers that were on the ground in between the rows….he was pretty proud of his collection. 

April 2013–Randoms

 

Here are just some randoms from April. 

 

The shot below is from one of the Kindergarten journals.  This says “The flower <is> lovely for my friends Pace & Cassidy.”  I was blown away that he used the word “lovely” – appropriately…..my sweet boy!

Just a normal Saturday at the Wards……drums made out of Lego containers and a garbage can. 

A local kid ‘daycare’ center hosted a spring festival a few Saturdays ago.  The weather was overcast and cool, which meant there were no lines for all the bouncy houses and events.  This is Caelan saying ‘Mom, I want to try…..and stop taking my picture….”"

Love my girl…….yes, she is as sweet as she looks!

Happy Easter 2013

On Easter morning, Brennan was up early and tried to sneak downstairs to see what E.B. had left for him…..Sean caught him and was able to put him off playing Legos in his room until 8am when Caelan got up.  We hid some eggs inside, and Sean hid eggs outside too.  They had a blast.  It was a riot to watch Caelan run around, crazy hair flowing in the breeze, illuminated by the sunrise.  These jammies are hand-me-downs from Steve and Julie too – I remember Sam wearing them 11 years ago, I would guess….

Heart melting over this one, seriously! 

Their eggs were full of jelly beans and coins primarily.  Below they were shaking their eggs and laughing….yes, Brennan was told to put a shirt on, but he was way too excited, and it was actually very nice outside. 

After our egg hunt and breakfast, we had a bath to get ready for church. 

Love this one….LOVE this dress I found for Caelan.

Jenny Pastore was our special guest for Easter dinner and she gifted us all with wonderful Easter baskets. 

And…..nothing says Easter like a Ligthsaber Battle in the backyard.  I love how Caelan is trying to get on the action here, but bracing herself for the worst.
