Great Barrier Reef Trip - SAVED

So, the last time I posted, we were all doing well. Then, on Monday, as we were dropping Maddy & Ella off at school, Brennan threw up all over the entryway of the administrators office. It was horrible - all over him, all over Sean, all over everywhere. He ended up throwing up 3 more times that day! We figure it was old milk - or milk that got too warm. Luckily, he was back to normal by Tuesday when we left for our trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Julie was left to fend for herself with three kids as my brother was in Switzerland for a business trip.

We got to Hamilton Island about 2pm on Tuesday, and had fish and chips for dinner that night. By 3am, I was totally sick and Sean followed close behind. We were back and forth to the bathroom many times - it was horrible. We had to be down to the marina by 8:20am for our trip to Reefworld, and the thought of getting on a boat tour was really more than either of us could stomach! But, we drug ourselves out of bed and headed there - we had paid for the trip and it was the sole reason we had left Brennan to go to Hamilton Island. But, about 5min before the boat was scheduled to board I "tossed my cookies". Luckily, a lady with the tour company let us switch our tours and go to Whitehaven Beach instead - it meant we could go back to bed for a few hours, and had to endure a much shorter boat ride.

When we got on the boat they warned that they might not be able to disembark us on Whitehaven due to strong northern winds, and instead they would drop us off at another beach. The unique thing about Whitehaven is the white silica sand - so we were pretty bummed about that. We wouldn't have gotten out of bed for just any old beach! Luckily we were able disembark and had a nice day at the beach - oh right up until the end, when I tossed my cookies into the ocean one last time!

On Thursday, we felt much better (we went to sleep at 7pm Wednesday night, and both woke up early but feeling much better). We headed down to the marina to load up for our trip to Reefworld, only to find that the trip had been CANCELLED due to electrical issues on the boat. We were crushed! Luckily, the same tour operator who had helped us the day before worked a deal for us to get a price break on a helicoptor ride to the reef and back - $500 per person vs the normal $700. It was a once in a lifetime experience, and we took the opportunity. It was the best money we have spent in a long time. Because they had cancelled the boat, we ended up being 2 of 6 people on Reefworld (normally 100+ people there) - so we had some very personalized attention once we got there. We snorkled for about an hour and then got back on the helicopter. It was only 1/2 hour each way to fly vs 3hours+ via the ferry - so it was awesome! Sean got to ride up front in the helicopter getting to Reefworld, and then I got to ride up front on the way back. We ended the great day by having a nice dinner out, and got really excited to see our baby the next day.

Unfortunately, we found out that Brennan has pink eye - so after Sam's baseball game this morning we had to go to the doctors to get some medicine for him. Hopefully we are now on the mend and ready to explore Syndey.
